Jaquar Group has established itself as a leading player in the premium segment of the bathroom fitting market in India. Can you share some insights into the company’s journey and key milestones that have contributed to its success?
Founded in 1960, Jaquar Group is built on a strong ethos of offering the highest quality and aesthetic standards, building strong consumer relations, integrity, and providing world-class products. From being a faucet manufacturer and the pioneer in branded bath fittings, the Group has progressively established itself as a rapidly growing multi-diversified and multinational ‘Complete Bathroom Solutions’ brand, with a turnover of $730 million in 2022-23. Through its brands, Artize, Jaquar, and Essco, the Group serves a variety of bathroom and lighting market categories for the Luxury, Premium, and Value segments.
The Group is today present in over 55 countries in the regions of Europe, the Middle East, Asia-Pacific, and Africa, making it the unquestionable industry leader. To date, it has 7 cutting-edge production facilities in India and 1 in South Korea, as well as more than 40 Jaquar World Destinations, which are experiential showrooms, including ours in Ebene Cybercity. The Group has also ventured into the lighting business, complete lighting solutions for residential and commercial needs.
Jaquar owes its success and longevity to the width and depth of the solutions in the markets it serves, its one-stop-shop approach combining service and solutions, and its constant quest for innovation. Its products consistently touch the hearts and minds of customers also thanks to the Group’s agility to respond to changing market dynamics and an ingrained tradition of setting new trends, as demonstrated by the launch of ‘Sensor and Sensibility’ following the pandemic, which centres around the smart usage and functionality of bath ware, sanitaryware and lighting solutions in a contactless manner both at homes and public places.
Given that the bathroom fitting market is extensive and notably responsive to design trends, could you provide insights into the scale of the market in which Jaquar operates? Additionally, how does the company stay at the forefront of design trends and ensure that its products remain appealing to consumers?
Jaquar World Destination showrooms are one-stop destinations and as such, they showcase the unique and comprehensive bathroom portfolio of Jaquar products and concepts for every kind of bath space, fitting all budgets while never compromising on quality, whether it be for residential or commercial use. One of the strengths of the brand lies in the fact that it offers coordinated solutions for everyone in the bathroom segment, allied to a very customer-centric approach that focuses on building relationships. When we assess the Mauritian market, we note that such unique design, craftsmanship, and award-winning products are only available at the Jaquar Destination showroom. The end product differentiates itself by being high in both functionality and aesthetic appeal.
When it comes to design, one of the pillars of the Group is for each and every product to be the perfect synthesis of form and function. Conceived by globally acclaimed designers, Jaquar designs meet global parameters of ergonomics, finish, material, safety, environmental impact, and functionality to lead the evolution of bathrooms from functional rooms to inspiring spaces. The Group notably has a strong Research and Development Department through which its designers have access to the best of what modern technology has to offer. Jaquar’s approach to design, drawing from classical, modern, contemporary, and fusion styles, has resulted in many recognitions, including the prestigious Red Dot and IF Design Awards, among others.
In addition to the wide range of products and concepts, expert advice, design consultancy, unparalleled customer service as well and a 10 year unmatched warranty for both commercial and residential projects are other factors that are specific to the Jaquar experience and that make it one of the most trusted brands in its segment.
Jaquar Group has recently expanded its operations into Mauritius. What factors influenced the decision to enter this market, and what opportunities do you see in the Mauritian market for premium bathroom fittings?
This expansion was made possible thanks to a partnership established in 2021, which led to the appointment of Essenze Ltd, the commercial cluster of N-G Group, as the Sole Country Partner of Jaquar Group in Mauritius. With our substantial experience in building and developing residential, commercial, industrial, and infrastructure projects across the country, N-G group has, over the years, collaborated with several suppliers and we have equipped our developments with products from a variety of brands. But we have rarely come across products of such quality and stature as those manufactured by Jaquar Group. Hence, following our first encounter with Jaquar bathroom solutions, we ensured the continuity of the relationship between the two groups in a more sustainable manner, not only to add value to our experience and the diversity of our property development projects but also to enable as many people as possible in Mauritius to get to know more and enjoy the brand’s products.
One of the consequences of the episodes of confinement experienced during the pandemic is that people have refocused on interior comfort. They are looking for products that combine the highest quality standards, aesthetics, functionality, and longevity to create a pleasant living space that promotes their well-being. Jaquar’s comprehensive portfolio of products for every type of bathroom space, which ranges from faucets, showers, and sanitary appliances, to wellness equipment such as whirlpool baths, steam cabins and spas, as well as shower cubicles, water heaters, and other accessories, has all the ingredients to satisfy the growing appetite of homeowners in this perspective.
Real estate is one of the pillars of the Mauritian economy and the main beneficiary of gross direct investment inflows…
Mauritius is known for its tourism industry. How does Jaquar Group plan to leverage opportunities in the hospitality sector for its premium bathroom fittings in the country?
Real estate is one of the pillars of the Mauritian economy and the main beneficiary of gross direct investment inflows, particularly with the flourishing number of IRS, RES, IHS, PDS, and Smart Cities projects. Such projects need to be equipped with quality products and accessories, and Jaquar’s introduction in Mauritius comes at just the right time, as all its products are governed by a zero-defect imperative, in addition to guarantees of functionality, longevity, and aesthetic appeal. Moreover, as previously mentioned, there is, in general, a growing demand for interior products and accessories that promote wellness and comfort.
Investors are always interested in growth prospects. What are the company’s expansion plans, both in terms of product offerings and geographic reach?
Jaquar Group was built on a philosophy of constant evolution: products are constantly reinvented, and its facilities and processes have been evolving over time to ensure it offers the best possible service to customers. Furthermore, expansion in overseas markets has been one of Jaquar’s growth pillars since 2020. In the next few years, the Group plans to more than double its overseas business in an endeavor to become a truly global brand.
As for the N-G Group, we have gradually carved out a place for ourselves in the building and construction sector in Mauritius since the early 1980s. The group has acquired considerable experience in the construction and development of residential, commercial, industrial, and infrastructure projects throughout the country. Building on this experience, N-G Group has adopted a vertical integration strategy with a view to controlling its value chain. Our activities now include investments in land development, real estate, infrastructure management, hotels, warehousing, and logistics, and now retail and distribution via our commercial cluster, Essenze Ltd. As far as Jaquar products are concerned, Essenze has already signed a reseller rights agreement with a top-of-mind retailer of the country so as to ensure a country-wide market coverage.
Sustainability is becoming increasingly important in today’s business landscape. How is Jaquar Group integrating sustainability practices into its operations and product offerings?
Conservation of water as a natural resource has long been the primary goal of the Group’s sustainability efforts to help preserve the living planet for future generations. Jaquar in fact leads the industry in sustainable production with a plethora of systems installed for energy efficiency, water use efficiency, rainwater conservation, waste recycling, and energy generation. By leveraging the latest revolutionary technologies, the Group has, among others, developed Flow Restrictors, which allow for faucets and showers to save up to 80% of water without compromising on the flow, or Air Showers, which have a built-in air mixer that mixes air and water in a manner that makes shower drops lighter but still voluminous.
Moreover, its global headquarters spread over 48,000 m² in Gurgaon near New Delhi, is a LEED Platinum Certified net-zero building that has optimized daylighting, variable air volume system, thermal heating and cooling systems, and an in-house solar plant that generates over 6.25 Megawatts of energy, thereby mitigating over 18,500 tons of carbon dioxide across factories and corporate office.
