Joint Utilisers Hydrant Installations (JUHI) and Joint Into Plane (JIP), joint ventures consisting of the four major oil operators in Mauritius, have recently garnered global acclaim for their exceptional track record in HSSE (Health, Safety, Security, and Environment) performance. This prestigious recognition, awarded annually by the Joint Inspection Group (JIG), positions SSR Airport among the 19 internationally awarded airports for operational excellence in aircraft refueling, with only one other African airport, Marrakech in Morocco, sharing the honor.
JUHI oversees the storage of aviation fuel (or jet fuel) at the airport, while JIP is responsible for aircraft refueling services. Both JUHI and JIP previously received excellence awards in 2014 and 2015, respectively, for their adherence to JIG standards, which ensure the quality of aviation fuel and operational norms for aircraft refueling services.
Founded in the early 1970s, JIG’s mission has been to establish a global technical center of excellence for aircraft refueling operations. The organization currently boasts more than 120 member companies. Each year, JIG awards sites based on their inspection history and HSSE performance. The list of 2022 winners was unveiled during the recent JIG technical forum held in Budapest.
The involvement of JUHI and JIP partners played a crucial role in achieving this milestone. As major players in the petroleum distribution industry, and given their significant impact on the economy, both partnerships, comprising Engen Mauritius, Indian Oil (Mauritius), TotalEnergies Mauritius, and Vivo Energy Mauritius, remain committed to upholding high standards in aircraft refueling.
The four partners express their pride in receiving such a distinguished honor and extend their gratitude to the local management for their daily efforts. Over the years, they have established, developed, and maintained an efficient working framework that has rightfully earned them this well-deserved recognition.
As a reminder, the joint ventures JIP and JUHI operate under a rotating presidency shared among the partners every three years. Encouraged by these accolades, JUHI and JIP are determined to continue providing a top-notch aircraft refueling experience.
